Moxy Goldens is a small, purpose-driven Golden Retriever breeding program rooted in health, genetics, and lifelong support for our dogs and their families. We are based in California, with close ties to Canada and the United Kingdom. We place puppies in thoughtfully selected homes throughout the West Coast and beyond.

My background

 

I’m Cindy, a PhD geneticist and lifelong dog person. I grew up in a family that bred and showed Afghan Hounds, and dogs have always been part of my life. I brought home my first Golden Retriever in 1988 — Micky.  We were together the last 17 of his 19 years — and that experience shaped my commitment to longevity, sound health, and stable temperament in this breed.

My professional background in genetics informs how I think about breeding: decisions should be evidence-based, transparent, and made with long-term population health in mind.

 

 

 

Our breeding philosophy

 

Moxy Goldens is intentionally a small program, typically producing one litter per year. This allows us to be selective, deliberate, and deeply involved with every puppy and every family.

Our breeding decisions are guided by:

  • Comprehensive health clearances and genetic testing

  • A focus on maintaining diversity across the global Golden Retriever population

  • Thoughtful sire–dam selection aimed at producing litters with a coefficient of inbreeding (COI) below the breed average

We believe the scientific evidence supports maximizing diversity as a key factor in producing healthy, resilient offspring. For this reason, we value collaborations with breeders in the United Kingdom and Ireland, close to the breed’s origins, as well as partners in Canada and the United States.

Our foundation girl, Moxy, is a therapy dog with titles in scent work, tricks, and handler discrimination. Through our work with Valley Humane Society, we participate in programs such as Paws to Read and support school and university students.

From Moxy’s first litter, one puppy stayed with us: Helix, who is an AKC Champion and a Canadian Champion and Grand Champion. He represents the balance of structure, temperament, and trainability that we strive for in every breeding.
